INTRODUCING "NIGERIA'S BIGGEST WEDDING FASHION SHOW" -WED INTERNATIONAL FASHION WEEK: CALLING FOR ENTRIES FROM WEDDING FASHION DESIGNERS

WED International Fashion Week


WED Magazine, organizers of Africa’s Largest Wedding Exhibition, WED Expo is proud to unveil an event set to be a game changer in the wedding fashion industry. Called the WED International Fashion Week, it is the biggest Wedding Fashion Show in Nigeria that will bring together designers, models, the media, fashion enthusiasts and key players in the wedding fashion industry.
The show, which would be hosted as a co-located event with WED Expo Lagos 2014 aims to promote the creative talents of emerging and established designers whose designs fall into the category of wedding fashion.
The Wedding fashion scene in Nigeria has witnessed tremendous growth in recent years, contributing largely to the boom in the wedding industry. Bridal fashion, grooms’ fashion, traditional wears and aso ebidesigns are significant aspect of weddings taken seriously by both couples and guests. Wedding fashion accounts for millions of naira spent yearly on weddings and thousands of business opportunities for entrepreneurs and skilled workers.
The WED International Fashion Week will not only celebrate this growth, but would serve as a platform for designers from across the country to showcase their designs to an international audience.
Akin Eso, Publisher of WED Magazine and convener of the event notes that “the WED International Fashion Week is set to be the hub for all things related to wedding fashion. Never before has the wedding industry brought together its fashion players in such a large quantity and this show will surpass the expectations of many.”
A call is hereby announced for both established and emerging designers to showcase their collection on the runway.
Designs would be showcased in three categories:
  1. Bridal & Bridesmaids Wear
  2. Grooms Wear
  3. Aso Ebi (Guest Fashion)

During a discussion with Dolapo Oni, Bolanle Olukanni and Michelle Dede on the Boy & Girl Talk Marriage section on Moments With Mo show, Big Brother star Uti Nwachukwu said the reason why he and most men can't marry women in the Nigerian entertainment industry is because the women sleep around with big men and they know it. "Most celebrity women in the entertainment industry have had to sleep with one big man or the other to have the comfortable life they live. Its common knowledge". He said whenever he hangs out with his friends and they talk about getting married to actresses, that most times the men say never because they've met these actresses in private places with these big men. The Queen of Cowrie, Dion is a Nigerian designer, and her brand La Falaise Dion is inspired by African spirituality and mystical practices. According to Dion “ the cowrie has a special significance in the African culture and has been seen by our ancestors to be an object of divination, a communication link between men and spirits, also the cowrie represents wealth, power, protection, the woman, creation, feminity, and also sexuality.” And as a matter of fact, has been used in the past as a form of old currency in West Africa. Dion’s brand is the designer’s way to not only honour her ancestors’ history but to write her own. According to her, “it is time for us black Africans to reconcile with our heritage and reclaim our culture; our spirituality, our gods and embrace it. Known to have designed the cowrie shell headpiece (Lagbadja) worn by Beyonce in her “spirit” music video for the Lion King: The Gift, Dion strikes again but this time it’s an Haute-couture piece covered in cowries for ...
