SEYI SHAY ON MYSTREETZ MAGAZINE COVER "LETS TALK SEX"

mystreetzmag Cover 18.jpg
According to Sesan Adeniji, publisher of Mystreetz magazine (the most consistent Nigerian monthly music magazine)
‘In the process of reviewing what had transpired in the previous year in the Nigerian music industry and also making a projection of what to expect next for inventory purposes, some very vital issues and questions usually pop up.  Issues such as ‘Let’s talk about sex in the Nigerian music industry- How’s Seyi shay and all the other ladies faring?’. In an industry predominantly dominated by the male gender, the female gender has held their ground in the past and present time but what does the future hold?
Despite all, the women have contributed in no small measure in the building of the Nigerian music soundscape since independence and even earlier. Matching their male folks pound for pound inspite of cultural barriers, which must come as a big credit considering the fact that they have had to fight twice as hard for every little success gained unlike the men who arguably have everything easy. The women have had to put up with incredible odds over the years to achieve what they have. And if anyone thinks the women have achieved any less than the men, then it’s obvious someone is either hallucinating or a plain ignoramus.
This story shed  light on how in the past, great women of virtue such as the likes of Lijadu Sisters, Oby Onyioha, Nelly Uchendu, Comfort Omoge as well as Batila Alake and Salawa Abeni, Onyeka Onwenu, Christy Essien Igbokwe, Evi-Edna Ogholi, Funmi Adams and Stella Monye stood up to be counted and how today, women such as Seyi Shay and the other ladies are fighting tooth and nail to have their heads above water. So let’s talk about sex in the Nigerian music industry.
